6/8/11 Hello and a happy June to all! We’re almost a month into summer vacation already – can you believe it!? August will be here before you know it, and school with it. I’m already looking forward to seeing each new or returning face, bright eyed from a restful summer vacation and eager to learn. Many of you have already re-enrolled your child for the 2011-2012 school year. But if you haven’t, be sure to do so as soon as possible. We enroll on a first-come, first-served basis and only have a limited number of seats in each grade. That means once those seats are filled, we can’t accept any more students. Re-enrollment is not automatic, so even if your child was a student last year, you must still register. Enrollment forms and information can be acquired at our main office during business hours or found on our website under the “Enrollment” tab. Now let’s talk about summer! A lot of you probably are or will be traveling at some point between now and August, with plenty of outdoor time in between. It’s easy to get caught up in all the summer fun, but be sure to keep one thing in mind at all times: safety. The National Safety Council has designated June as National Safety Month, and their website is chock full of information and tips for keeping safe, not just during the summer but year-round. Be sure to check them out! Another important thing during the summer is to keep young minds sharp. Did you know that the average student loses the equivalent of anywhere from 1 to 2 ½ months of previous learning during the summer? That’s over a year of education lost by the end of high school! Engaging your child in daily educational activities is a good way to minimize what has been termed “summer learning loss.” From reading to at-home science experiments, there are endless ways to not only keep your child learning over the summer, but make it fun, too. Family Education has a great webpage with plenty of ideas – give them a try! That’s all for now – until next time, everyone have a fun and safe summer! To continued learning (especially during the summer!),
