September Happenings

9/7/11

Happy September! I hope everyone had a fun and safe Labor Day! While the holiday weekend often signals that fall is on the way, the temperatures are remaining toasty so far this September, so just a reminder to encourage your kids to stay hydrated while on campus. Students can refill their water bottles from home at water dispensers provided in each classroom, or at any of eight drinking fountains around campus, including two new cooled outdoor drinking fountains. Let’s all keep our cool while we await the cooler weather!

As we continue to count down the days to the first day of fall, below are just a couple of reminders to add to this week’s calendar:

Friday, September 9th is Picture Day. It’s always nice to see students looking their best and showing their school spirit in uniform on picture day. At the end of the year, when yearbooks come out, we all love to see how our Eagles have grown since taking school pictures in September!

Also on September 9th, progress reports come home. Be sure to ask your children about the reports and feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns. You can reach out to your child’s teacher via email, by phone (Phoenix Campus (602) 442-8791; Douglas Campus (520) 364-6311), or in person before or after class.

Finally, I would like to thank all of the parents who joined us for the Rachel’s Challenge community assembly. The earlier student assemblies went very well, with our guest speaker inspiring acts of kindness, respect, and positive leadership among students. Even if you couldn't make the community assembly, I hope you’ll discuss with your kids about what they learned from Rachel’s Challenge.

We were very glad to be able to offer these special assemblies at Liberty, as the Rachel’s Challenge message is right in line with the positive character traits we try to encourage every day. At Liberty, we follow the Character Counts! program, aimed at developing character in young people. The six pillars of character we encourage are: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. I hope you’ll help us encourage every child to keep these qualities – and Rachel’s Challenge – in mind all year long.

Thank you again for your support and for helping us get the school year off to a great start!

To continued learning,

Raena Janes
